Dr. Shaffer's Early Life

Dr. Lillie M. White Shaffer grew up in Lake Village, Arkansas with her parents and siblings. Knowing her love for education and desire to teach youth, Lillie enrolled in Chicago State Teachers College in 1960 and earned her Bachelor of Science in Education. Her first assignment in the Chicago Public Schools was at Skinner Elementary School where her work as a classroom teacher touched hundreds of young lives. She continued to work at Skinner while earning her Master of Arts in English from Chicago State University in 1965. In 1971, she moved from Skinner to Bogan High School for three years before being selected as Principal of Oglesby Elementary School in 1974. In 1978, she earned her Doctorate in Education from Nova Southeastern University. Her career in public education spanned 32 years, but her principalship at Oglesby (1974–1992) afforded her the opportunity to create a lasting atmosphere of excellence and a legacy of equity as she worked with children and families, and mentored the men and women who were blessed to come under her purview.

Dr. Shaffer's Christian Education & Achievemnts

Lillie White Shaffer received a certificate in Biblical Studies from Moody Bible Institute and a diploma in Christian Education from the Sunday School Publishing Board (SSPB) of the National Baptist Convention, USA. Through the leading of the Holy Spirit, those achievements placed her in a position to improve Christian education for countless individuals and churches. Dr. Lillie White Shaffer was chosen as Dean of the Baptist General State Congress of Christian Education from 1992 to 1997. In 1997 she became the State Director of Christian Education (Illinois), a post she held until 2008. Also, in 1997 she began her journey as the Regional Director of the Midwest Region in the Department of Christian Education with SSPB, a position she held for 13 years. Dr. Shaffer became President of the Greater New Era Baptist District Association of Chicago and Vicinity in 1992 and served in that office for eight years. Beginning in 1999 and continuing today, Dr. Shaffer is the Supervisor of Instructor Certification for the National Baptist Congress of Christian Education.

Dr. Shaffer's Work As a Christian Educator

Dr. Shaffer’s work for the Lord is an extension of her professional career in education through the public schools of Chicago. She joined the faculty of the Chicago Baptist Institute (CBI) in 1997. Her love of the Bible, coupled with her experience in leadership and teaching, allowed her to train men and women from various churches, ministries, and faith traditions. She continued providing courses for leaders across the city and region for ten years before accepting the position as Academic Dean of CBI. As both faculty and dean, Dr. Lillie White Shaffer gave her professional expertise to train a broad spectrum of Christian educators and church leaders for 14 years.

Through the years, Dr. Shaffer’s amazing work in Christian Education, and her professional credentials in secular education have led her to encourage thousands of God’s people as a Sunday School teacher, Bible teacher, retreat leader, conference presenter, and Women’s Day speaker. Her extensive work has touched individuals and groups nationally and in countries across the globe including Israel, West Africa, France Italy, Great Britain, Switzerland, Holland, Germany, and both the American and British Virgin Islands. Over the years her continued studies garnered numerous certificates and awards.

Dr. Shaffer's Legacy

Through it all, Dr. Lillie White Shaffer continues to serve her local assembly, Lillydale Baptist Church where her pastor is Dr. Alvin Love. In her southside congregation, Dr. Shaffer’s legacy of hard work and labor of love continues as she serves as Dean of Christian Education, Assistant Sunday School teacher, a member of the General Mission Union Dorcas Circle, and Bible instructor of the Golden Ager Ministry. Dr. Lillie M. White Shaffer is a Christian woman who loves God and His Word. She has devoted her life to the principle of Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Her passion for teaching the word of God and for living so that her life impacts others is summed up by her motto and determination: “God’s Word Made Plain.” 

Dr. Lillie White Shaffer is the widow of the late Warren G. Shaffer, Sr. and the mother of her late son, John. She is blessed to be the grandmother of five, the great-grandmother of eight, and the spiritual mother of thousands.
