The Reverend Dr. Kenneth D. Phelps is a multifaceted individual who has dedicated his life to serving both his faith community and society at large. As a Pastor, Teacher, Author, Playwright, and Entrepreneur, Dr. Phelps has become a prominent figure in his community, leaving a lasting impact through his various roles.
Pastoral and Entrepreneurial Pursuits
From the pulpit of Concord Missionary Baptist Church (CMBC), Dr. Phelps stands as a sturdy tree, providing spiritual guidance and direction to his congregation. For 29 years, Dr. Phelps has pastored the CMBC. His commitment to nurturing the flock is evident in his role as a mentor, friend, partner, and pastor. Whether in times of joy or despair, he exemplifies a beacon of hope, showcasing the infinite wisdom of God through unwavering convictions and confidence in Christ.
Dr. Phelps is not only a spiritual leader but also a dynamic entrepreneur. As the owner and CEO of IMANI Faith Productions and Imani Writer’s Cohort, Inc., he has established a faith-based media publishing and website and graphic design production company, contributing to the dissemination of spiritual content. Moreover, as the founder and CEO of Concord Community Organization, a non-profit 501c3 organization, he actively works towards bringing peace to the Woodlawn community in Chicago.
In response to the recent wave of asylum seekers, Dr. Phelps founded the Home Away From Home Center, extending a helping hand to those fleeing war, violence, persecution, and political disruption. Through this initiative, he provides essential resources, support services, and a welcoming community atmosphere to aid in their integration into society.
Beyond his pastoral and entrepreneurial pursuits, Dr. Phelps is a prolific author, having penned several papers, books, blogs, and devotions. His literary contributions include works such as “Made in His Image,” “30-Day Journey to Forgiveness Devotional,” , “Seven Letters to Seven Churches,” and “Church Hurt!” showcasing his commitment to fostering spiritual growth and understanding.

Married for thirty-eight years to Veneeta B. Phelps, Dr. Phelps is not only a devoted husband but also a proud father of three and a loving grandfather. His family, including children Kenneth, Morgan, and David, and grandchildren Kalissa, Adriel, Ty, and Mikey, stands as a testament to his dedication to both familial and community values.
Dr. Phelps’s educational background is equally impressive, holding a B.A. in Computer Information Systems from Wartburg College, a Master of Divinity, and a Doctorate of Ministry degree from Northern Baptist Theological Seminary. His commitment to lifelong learning reflects his dedication to excellence in both his spiritual and academic pursuits.
